Service Description

Our Speech & Language Therapy service supports children who need help with understanding language, using words, speaking clearly or communicating with others. Sessions are play-based, child-friendly and tailored to each child’s age, interests and ability. Who This Service Is For Speech & Language Therapy may be suitable if your child: Speaks late or uses very few words for their age Understands less than expected (doesn’t follow simple instructions) Has unclear speech that others struggle to understand Uses single words but cannot make phrases or sentences Finds it hard to start or continue a conversation Relies mostly on pointing, crying or behaviour instead of words Mixes up sounds, stammers, or gets “stuck” while talking You do not need a diagnosis to start – we focus on what your child can do and where support is needed. What We Work On Understanding (Receptive Language) Following instructions, understanding questions, concepts (in/on/under, big/small, colours, actions, etc.) Expressing (Expressive Language) Building vocabulary, using phrases and sentences, asking and answering questions, telling simple stories. Speech Sound Clarity Working on specific sounds, patterns and mouth movements to make speech clearer and easier to understand. Social Communication Taking turns in conversation, greeting, eye contact, sharing ideas, playing and interacting with others. Functional Communication Helping children ask for things, refuse, choose, request help and express feelings in a respectful way (using words, gestures, visuals or AAC if needed). How Sessions Work Individual sessions focused on each child’s specific goals Play, games, books, pictures and everyday activities used to teach skills Goals broken into small, achievable steps Regular review of progress and adjustment of strategies Therapy feels like play for the child, but every activity is planned with a clear purpose. Working Together with Families We believe progress is fastest when home and centre work together: Detailed assessment and goal-setting before starting Clear explanation of your child’s strengths and needs Simple, practical home activities to support daily practice Regular feedback on what is improving and what we are still working on Our aim is to help your child communicate with more confidence and comfort at home, in school and in the community.
